Class Details

Momma + Baby Beginner Belly Dance 8 weeks (consecutive) Dates: Thursdays Sept. 17 - Nov. 5, 2026 Time: 9:45 am - 10:45 am Location: DanceCo. Ltd, 9030 McKenney Ave, St. Albert, T8N 2T7 This class is for you Mama! Come learn belly dance with your baby by your side. Give yourself this time to belly dance and ease your body back from postpartum with this low-impact ancient art form. Need to feed, soothe, or change a diaper mid-class? Absolutely no problem. This is a safe, pressure-free space for both you and your little one. Baby Age Requirement: All participants must be at least 6 weeks postpartum (or 8 weeks for C-section recovery) to 6-8 months postpartum. The minimum of 6-8 weeks helps protect your healing body, Momma, and the maximum age may vary. Most importantly, your baby should not be crawling yet. If your little one has just started crawling, please bring a pack n’ play so they can stay safely beside you during class, since this class is all about you and baby. We want to help keep your child, you, and everyone in class safe and comfortable. Safety: While belly dance is low-impact, it is important that you receive clearance from your OB-GYN or midwife before participating and have clearance from your doctor or midwife to resume gentle exercise. Why belly dance is good for postpartum recovery? Belly dance naturally encourages a neutral pelvis, which helps counteract the "mom posture" of carrying a heavy car seat or slouched nursing positions. Belly dance helps strengthen the pelvic floor, tone muscles, lowers stress levels, improves flexibility, strength and posture. Hip movements help increase blood circulation to the pelvic region which allows your muscles to stretch, strengthen, and relax. What will class be like? You will dance beside and around your baby. It is created to engage your baby while also allowing you to get some exercise, be with like-minded individuals and have fun. During each 1-hour class you will learn a variety of basic belly dance movements. You will also be introduced to some belly dance props: fan veil and veil. You will not have to memorize any choreography. What to wear: comfortable exercise clothes. You do not need to show your belly. Traditionally belly dance is done barefoot but you can wear socks, a ballet slipper or soft jazz shoes if you prefer. What to bring: Your water bottle, tummy time mat and toys for your baby Note: A minimum of 5 participants is required for this course to continue.
